TOPIC: EEO for Small Businesses: What You Should Know
Irene Carter Kent is an Outreach and Education Coordinator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In this role, she provides outreach, training, and public affairs support throughout the State of Georgia and portions of South Carolina. Mrs. Carter Kent educates workers on their employment rights, delivers training and technical assistance to employers on EEO compliance, coordinates outreach and educational initiatives, and partners with community and professional organizations to promote equal opportunity in the workplace.
Prior to her current position, Mrs. Carter Kent served as the EEOC Atlanta District’s State, Local, and Tribal Coordinator, where she managed contracts for the Fair Employment Practice Agencies (FEPAs) in Georgia and South Carolina. In that capacity, she collaborated closely with FEPA partners to ensure the effective and efficient processing and investigation of employment discrimination complaints filed against state and local government entities as well as private sector employers.
Mrs. Carter Kent also served for more than eleven years as a federal Investigator with the EEOC, conducting investigations of employment discrimination charges in the Atlanta District Office and the Detroit Field Office, where she began her career with the agency. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, the wife of a retired Marine, and a proud mother of five, Mrs. Carter Kent has received numerous awards and recognitions in acknowledgment of her professional excellence and dedicated public service.
This presentation will provide an overview of the federal equal employment opportunity laws enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). We will discuss employer responsibilities, employee rights, common workplace issues, and best practices for fostering compliant workplaces. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
