Our next Athens Area SHRM meeting will be on Tuesday, February 10th, at the Athens Country Club. The Athens Country Club is located at 2700 Jefferson Road, Athens 30607.

The program will be "How to implement a Wellness Program" and be delivered by Kendra Houghton, M.Ed., CHES. Kendra is the Wellness Coordinator of Athens-Clarke County Government.

Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed promptly by dinner at 6:00 pm and then our program.

Please register by Friday February 6th so that we can have an accurate count of attendees.

  • How free resources/programs are recruited & maintained (i.e. university services, intern work, hospital programs, in-house projects & data collection, etc.)

  • Educational lunch sessions, contests, screenings, fitness classes, fitness events, etc.

How to engage employees of all stages of change

  • Pre-contemplation through action/maintenance phase

Breaking down complex health topics/issues into many small sub-topics for more efficient instruction & comprehension with health education programs: using creativity to appeal

Speaker Bio - Kendra Houghton, MEd., CHES

Kendra Houghton has ten years of experience in the health promotion field, with a concentration in adult work site health as a Certified Health Education Specialist. She obtained both her Master’s degree in Health Promotion & Behavior and her Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education from the University of Georgia, where she competed as a track and cross country athlete. Kendra has been involved with The Home Depot Building Better Health corporate wellness program, Community Health Network as a small business health counselor, Substantial Solutions, Inc. as a work site health education program developer, Athens-Clarke County as a risk reduction program health coach, and she has now been the Wellness Coordinator of the ACC Wellness Program for three years. Through this position she involves the University of Georgia Pharmacy School, College of Public Health, Health & Physical Education School, and Medical Partnership to provide training to students through hands on experience administering programs for her 2,000 employees/retirees. Track & field competition remains one of her true passions, and she has coached middle & long distance running at the high school level for ten years, in addition to individual health coaching & wellness instructing in the Athens, GA community. She remains competitive with her own fitness through instructing indoor cycling, running, and Cross fit training.
