The program will be: Strategically Managing the HR Function
“The tactics of implementing a strategic HRM role and how this role might be communicated to employers” and be delivered by Patricia S. Sherrer, Ph. D. Associate Professor Business Administration Walker School of Business Administration, Piedmont College.
Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed promptly by dinner at 6:00 pm and then our program.

Strategic management is the process organizations use to address competitive challenges to their sustainability. Strategic planning requires managements integrating an organization major goals, policies, and actions into a cohesive whole. As technology helps us effectively outsource some of the transactional HR functions; the HRM role is changing to include building an HR strategy for the firm to support strategic planning. This requires new competencies like business knowledge, state-of-the-art practices in staffing, development, rewards, organizational design, and communication. HRM must also be skilled in diagnosing problems to implement changes. Finally, the competence of integrating all this is important.
Speaker Bio - Patricia S. Sherrer, Ph. D
Pat is an Associate Professor in Piedmont’s part time MBA program and undergraduate business administration programs at Piedmont’s Athens campus on Prince Avenue. Her Ph. D. is in Human Resource Development from GA State University. She has taught HRM at levels, as well as Leadership, Organizational Behavior, and International Business for 13 years on both the Demorest and Athens campuses. She started her professional life as a classroom teacher who found success in teaching adults; she has been a trainer, a business owner, a physician’s practice manager and a grant writer before coming to Piedmont.
She has 4 adult children, one grandchild, and lives with her retired husband, Willis, on a farm in Wilkes County.
