Happy New Year, HR Professionals!

Our first Athens Area SHRM meeting of 2014 will be on Tuesday January 14th at Athens Country Club. We are excited to announce that this will be our new meeting location for 2014 – the Athens Country Club is located at

2700 Jefferson Road, Athens, Georgia .

In addition to this new meeting location, we unfortunately must implement new meeting pricing for members and guests. We held the pricing as low as possible for as long as possible, but recent substantial increases in costs could not be absorbed by the chapter. We appreciate your understanding with regards to the new pricing.

Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed promptly by dinner at 6:00 pm and then our program.

Please register by Friday January 10thso that we can have an accurate count of attendees. If you have special dietary needs or requests, please send those to AASHRM@gmail.com.

Our January 2014 program will be “The Value of Employee Financial Education” presented by local Edward Jones Financial Advisor and frequent AASHRM visitor Mr. Jess Jensen-Ryan.

Jess will focus on the benefits to both the employee and the employer of working with a financial advisor to reach long-term financial goals. Whether your employees are focused on planning their transition to retirement, or looking for ways to budget, an employee education program can provide the one-on-one help and workshops they need to make a plan.

Workshops Jess will highlight can help employees gain an in-depth understanding of:

1. How to take full advantage of their company's retirement plan features and benefits.

2. Features, benefits, and risks of each type of investment.

3. How to make appropriate investment choices.

4. The value of diversification.

Jess will also discuss how employee education may help to increase participation in your employer sponsored retirement plan and manage your fiduciary responsibilities under ERISA 404(c).

Jess Jensen-Ryan is a Licensed Financial Advisor with a Series 7, Series 66, and State Insurance Licenses. He joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in 2011 and manages the Lexington Road Edward Jones office in

Athens with the help of his Office Administrator Debbie Crawford.

This event has been submitted for HRCI credit.
