Our next Athens Area SHRM meeting will be on Tuesday March 12th at The Georgia Center. Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed by dinner and our program. There does not appear to be a UGA Basketball game scheduled for this day!

Please register by Friday March 8th so that we can have an accurate count of attendees.

Our program will be “Fitness for Duty Examinations and Return to Work Programs” presented by Dr. Brian Forrester from Regional FirstCare.  Dr. Forrester will cover the types of fitness for duty examinations, explain their usefulness, speak about how state and federal laws impact fitness for duty, and cover when fitness for duty examinations should be performed. He will also discuss the value of establishing a return-to-work program.

Dr. Forrester is the medical director for Regional FirstCare Occupational Health Services in Athens, GA. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and obtained his doctor of medicine degree at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Forrester completed his residency in occupational medicine at Johns Hopkins University, concurrently earning a master of public health degree in occupational health and safety. He is the only physician practicing in the Athens area that is both residency-trained and board certified in occupational medicine. He served in the U.S. Navy as an undersea medical officer, practicing diving medicine and radiation health. Dr. Forrester is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Georgia in the College of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences.

The presentation has been submitted to HRCI for General Credit.

Thanks to Corey Luttrell for lining up this month’s program and submitting it for credit through HRCI.
