Following the presentation there will also be a Q&A session with Attorney Chuck Dubose, who specializes in workers' compensation defense litigation. Since 2000 he has concentrated his practice in this area, representing employers, insurers and third party administrators in workers' compensation claims.

Worker's Compensation - A Legistative Update & Administrative Best Practices

Workers Compensation compliance knowledge and expertise is an important element in an HR Professional’s skill set. Frank McKay, Chairman of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation (SBWC) will present a Legislative Update and share information regarding important aspects of Workers’ Compensation Administration such as:

  • Return to Work Issues Following an On the Job Injury
  • Medical Treatment in Workers’ Compensation cases and Panel of Physicians
  • Hearing Decisions and Appeals to the Appellate Division of the SBWC
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution/Mediation.

Based on his years of experience as an attorney specializing in Workers’ Compensation and as the Chief Judge reviewing appeal cases, he will give employers guidance on administering Workers’ Compensation effectively and appropriately.

Presenter's BIO:

FRANK MCKAY, is the Chairman of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation, appointed March 01, 2013 by Governor Nathan Deal. He came to the Board from private practice where he was a partner in the Stewart, Melvin & Frost law firm in Gainesville, Georgia. His practice was concentrated in workers’ compensation, and he tried and presented many cases before the Administrative Law Judges, Appellate Division, Superior Courts, and the Georgia Court of Appeals. He is a former Special Assistant Attorney General handling workers’ compensation claims for the State of Georgia. He obtained his law degree (J.D.) from Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, and his undergraduate degree (B.A. Economics) from Clemson University. He was on the State Board’s Advisory Council prior to being appointed the Chairman.

 

CHUCK DUBOSE, is a partner with Stewart, Melvin & Frost in Gainesville.  Chuck specializes in workers' compensation defense litigation. Since 2000 he has concentrated his practice in this area, representing employers, insurers and third party administrators in workers' compensation claims. He represents a wide variety of clients in the manufacturing, retail, insurance, banking, healthcare, trucking and construction industries. Mr. DuBose also provides lectures on workers' compensation defense strategies and a variety of other topics. He is experienced in workers' compensation litigation, personal injury litigation' subrogation, criminal defense and domestic relations.

Mr. DuBose is licensed to practice in all State and Superior Courts in Georgia, as well as the Northern District of Georgia, the Middle District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. He is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell, as being nationally recognized for the highest peer review ranking amongst AV rated attorneys - for both legal ability and ethical standards.

Mr. DuBose obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music from University of Montevallo, where he graduated summa cum laude and focused on the area of piano performance. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from University of Mississippi School of Law, where he served as Associate Editor of the Mississippi Law Journal and graduated cum laude. He is a member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Georgia Bar.

 

Mr. DuBose is active at New Liberty United Methodist Church in Braselton, serving as the church pianist.
