Speaker:  Lt. Christopher Nichols                                                           ACC Police Department  

Christopher Nichols has been in law enforcement since 1999. For the past 15 years, Lt. Nichols has served with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. He has held assignments as a patrol officer, a detective and supervisor in the Robbery / Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division, and currently serves as the commander of the Crime Analysis Unit and the Homeland Security Coordinator. Lt. Nichols is the department's liaison with the Georgia Terrorism Intelligence Project which assists local, state, federal, and tribal law enforcement in combating terrorist activities.

Lt. Nichols is a frequent speaker at the University of Georgia and Athens Technical College. Lt. Nichols has a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from the University of Georgia and is currently completing his Master's Degree in Public Safety Administration at Columbus State University. In addition to his law enforcement experience, Lt. Nichols is a licensed Georgia EMT.

Topic:    Active Threat Training

Participants receive instruction about how to prepare for and respond to being trapped inside a building during an active shooter event.

Identify and discuss the phases of Disaster Response Psychology and how to limit their impact on potential victims

Explain the civilian response protocols as they relate to an active shooter event

Identify common traits of 179 domestic active shooter events and lessons that can be applied to citizen response during an actual event

Proper response of the responsibly armed citizen during an active shooter event

Identify the importance of medical training and psychological after-effects during an active shooter event

This course provides two credit hours for Georgia P.O.S.T. and Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma continuing education.
