Our next Athens Area SHRM Chapter will be meeting Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Georgia Center.  Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed by dinner and presentation.

Please register by Friday October 5th, 2012 so that we can have an accurate count of attendees.

Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander, tenured associate professor of Legal Studies at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, and founder of Practical Diversity, a diversity consulting business, is a cum laudegraduate of the Howard University School of Law and a magna cum laude graduate of the Federal City College (now the University of the District of Columbia), both in Washington, DC will be speaking to our chapter on diversity standards as formalized by the SHRM task force.

Ms. Bennett-Alexander participated in SHRM's task force, which described it's purpose as engaging in an "activity that SHRM believes will be the foundation of future growth and influence for the diversity and inclusion fields. SHRM has taken on the challenge to lead the development of organizational standards for the human resources and diversity professionals. Our goal is to drive the creation of diversity and human resource management standards in the US." Ms. Bennett-Alexander will discuss the purpose of the standards being proposed by SHRM, the process of coming up with them, the areas they address and the upcoming international standards in the pipeline.
