Please note that there is construction at the Georgia Center and we will be meeting in Dogwood Hall instead of our normal meeting room. Also, be sure to bring business cards for networking!

Please register by Friday Aug 9th so that we can have an accurate count of attendees. If you have special dietary needs, PLEASE send an email to AASHRM@gmail.com when you register so that we can give the Georgia Center sufficient notice.

Our August 2013 program will be “Effective Communication for HR Professionals – You Had Me At Hello” presented by Jim Kerlin of Sandler Training in Lawrenceville. Jim was recommended by our friends at the Foothills of GA SHRM over in Gainesville and we thank them for the referral. If you have individuals who may have challenges related to this topic, this may be a time to register them as a guest and bring them to the meeting!

Jim’s session covers HR communications both within the organization and in recruiting/hiring, with emphasis on bonding/rapport, how to use pattern interrupts, elements of communication (physiology, tonality, words) including active listening, OK- Not OK-ness, mirror and matching, identifying primary sensory dominance (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic), understanding your own DISC style and how to identify and adapt to the other person's style within minutes.  Emphasis is on bonding/rapport skills to build a bridge of trust and adapting to other’s styles. Some specific topics within the program:

The importance of bonding/rapport to build trust within corporate culture

Use of pattern interrupts and managing expectations for new hire interviews, avoiding buzzwords

Elements of communication:  body language 55%, tonality 38%, words 7% and the implications

Identifying the Primary Sensory Dominance of other person – Visual, auditory, or kinesthetic

Understanding the DISC communication styles: Dominant, Influencer, Steady Relator, Compliant
