Our Athens Area SHRM Chapter will be meeting Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Georgia Center. Networking will begin at 5:30pm followed by dinner and presentation.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) will be talking to our chapter about the Uniformed Services
Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA).

Civilian employers play a critical role in the defense of the nation by complying with existing employment laws protecting the rights of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. The sacrifice of employers allows the National Guard and Reservist the ability to perform duties in an exemplary manner.

ESGR is a Department of the Defense agency that seeks to promote a culture in which all American employers and the community support and value the military service the men and women who serve. We recognize outstanding support, increase awareness of the law, and resolve conflicts through informal mediation. During our current economic crisis knowing the law is paramount.

Just a few items to note:

The briefing is HRCI approved and is worth 1.75 credit.

Department of Labor Rep Richard Wright will conduct 60% of the briefing.

A military commander will be in attendance (just as a courtesy)

Literature will be provided.

Rides on a UH-60 Blackhawk (helicopter) will be raffled!
